Care for your lamp shade
Rotating Lamp Shades
If never moved, your lamp shade can fade unevenly in the sunlight. To ensure that your lampshades keep a uniform appearance, rotate each a half turn every time you dust (at least once a month is a good guideline). This is especially important when you have a pair of matching lampshades. If one gets more sun than the other, move them between bases every other month.
Wattage
Use the maximum of 60 watts or lower.
On all chandelier shades and small shields, use candelabra bulbs with the maximum of 25 watts or lower to avoid excessive heat. A dimmer switch can be used to lower the wattage for more ambiance.
Never allow fabric to touch any bulb!
Cleaning
Periodically take a hair dryer and blow the dust off your shade. Always use a light hand when handling your shade and hold the shade by the frame not the sides. Soft sable brushes about 2" wide are great for getting dust between pleats.
Blow the dust off OFTEN before it settles into the weave. NEVER, EVER use a vacuum on delicate silk.
A small lint brush can be used on linen shades or shades that have a heavier weave that silk. If the fabric is a smooth fabric, test a small area to be sure the lint brush doesn't pick up the nap of the fabric.
